The term “Caribbean” consists of various uses. Its primary ones are political and geographical. The Caribbean can in addition be broadened to include territories with strong ethnic and traditional associations to slavery, European colonisation, and the plantation system.
The location and climate in the Caribbean region varies: Some islands in the region have fairly level landscape of non-volcanic foundation.
Nicaragua’s Caribbean coast- BILWI (Puerto Cabezas) Bluefields, Pearl Lagoon, Corn Island. The word “Nicaribbean” derived from combining Nicaragua and Caribbean into one word.
Baseball is the most prominent sport played in Nicaragua. Although a number of professional Nicaraguan baseball teams have most recently folded, Nicaragua delights in a strong custom of American-style baseball.
Baseball was presented to Nicaragua during the 19th century. In the Caribbean coast, natives from Bluefields were shown how to play baseball in 1888 by Albert Addlesberg, a retailer from the United States. Baseball did not popularize in the Pacific coast prior to 1891 when a pack of mostly college students from the United state of america developed “La Sociedad de Recreo” (Society of Recreation) where they played various sports, baseball being among the most popular.
There are five teams that compete among themselves: Indios del Boer (Managua), Chinandega, Tiburones (Sharks) of Granada, Leon and Masaya. When Nicaragua contends internationally, players from these sports teams consist of the national team.
The country has had its portion of MLB players (including current San Diego Padres Short Stop Everth Cabrera, Boston Red Sox pitcher Vicente Padilla, but among the most significant is Dennis MartÃnez, who was the first baseball player from Nicaragua to play in Major League Baseball. He eventually became the 1st Latin-born pitcher to throw a perfect game, and the 13th in the major league history, when he played with the Montreal Expos against the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium in 1991.
