Chinese Ferry Overturns on Yangtze River
A rescue operation is initiated on China’s Yangtze River following a passenger Chinese Ferry sinking on Monday evening.
There were reported as being at 450 people aboard the ship, when it ran into distress in Hubei Province during the course of a cyclone.
The ferry, called the Eastern Star, was travelling from Nanjing in eastern China to Chongqing city.
Chinese state media reported that only about a dozen people had been rescued, among them the ship’s captain and engineer who mentioned the vessel sank quickly. Most of those on board are said as being elderly tourists.
China’s Premier Li Keqiang is due to arrive at the scene of the accident.
